New Defense Department Program Helps Community Child Care Programs Serve Military Families

Reimbursement rates as high as $1,700 per child per month.

The Department of Defense and Child Care Aware® of America have launched the Military Child Care in Your Neighborhood-PLUS (MCCYN-PLUS) initiative to make it easier for North Carolina’s military families to access and afford quality child care from community providers.

MCCYN-PLUS builds on the Military Services’ history of providing fee assistance to eligible military families to offset the cost of child care in community programs when on-base child care is unavailable. This program leverages the state’s commitment to building a high-quality early care and learning network that helps families raise capable children and build a stronger North Carolina.

Child care programs with a license rated 3 stars or higher in the state’s quality rating and improvement program are eligible to apply. In addition to increasing the number of quality child care options for military families, MCCYN-PLUS gives eligible child care providers an opportunity to support and expand their businesses.

Providers interested in qualifying for MCCYN-PLUS can apply through Child Care Aware® of America.

If an application has already been submitted and/or they are a participating provider with the fee assistance program, no additional enrollment application is needed by Child Care Aware® of America for MCCYN-PLUS.

MCCYN-PLUS is administered by Child Care Aware® of America, a nonprofit organization that works directly with child care agencies to ensure all families have access to quality, affordable child care.
