Data Sources for the DCDEE Public Data Dashboards
The Division of Child Development and Early Education (DCDEE) collects data from several sources and partners to monitor child care in North Carolina. The following data sources are used in the dashboards. New data sources may be added.
NC Early Care and Learning
The data for the NC Early Care and Learning Dashboard is pulled from the Division of Child Development and Early Education (DCDEE) Regulatory System. The Regulatory System includes information on all licensed Family Child Care Homes and Child Care Centers across North Carolina. The data in the Regulatory System is updated during DCDEE site visits, which are done at least once a year at each licensed facility. Thus, the data in the Regulatory System for any given site may be between 1 and 364 days old.
Subsidized Child Care Assistance
The data for the Subsidized Child Care Assistance Dashboard is pulled from North Carolina Families Accessing Services through Technology (NC FAST). NC FAST is a system of technological tools and business processes to enable staff of the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (NC DHHS) and the 100 county Departments of Social Services to spend less time performing administrative tasks and more time assisting families.
NC Pre-K
The data for the NC Pre-K Dashboard is pulled from NC Pre-K Kids, NC Pre-K App, and NC Pre-K Plan. Data in the Kids, App, and Plan is entered primarily by program staff at local NC Pre-K sites.
Population Data
NC DCDEE Dashboards use the Bridged-Race Population estimates from 2018-2020 produced by the US Census Bureau in collaboration with the National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS) and are available in CDC WONDER.
