WORKS-Workforce Online Reporting and Knowledge System

DCDEE WORKS Release Letter

The N.C. Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) Division of Child Development and Early Education (DCDEE) is pleased to announce the release of a new web portal, the DCDEE Workforce Online Reporting and Knowledge System (WORKS).

Staff in all N.C. childcare positions must meet minimum education requirements. Previously, all paperwork needed to support education requirements had to be submitted to the DCDEE Workforce Education Unit for evaluation purposes. Effective Friday, Dec. 30, 2016, with the exception of official transcripts, paperwork will be uploaded using WORKS. The public portal includes a self-service component known as the applicant portal. The DCDEE WORKS applicant portal enables an individual applicant to register and maintain their workforce information to support education requirements.

DCDEE WORKS requires that the user maintain an individual NCID user name and password. The first time the user logs into DCDEE WORKS with their NCID, they will be prompted to create their DCDEE WORKS account. Once the account is created, the documentation submitted through DCDEE WORKS will be associated with the account. Individuals who have previously submitted documentation to the DCDEE Workforce Education Unit for purposes of evaluation should not need to upload the previously submitted documentation; this information will be associated with your individual DCDEE WORKS account after it has been established.

The portal is available online and may be accessed via the following link: https://dcdee.works.nc.gov/

NCID Registration for the Early Childhood Workforce

In preparation for the WORKS Applicant portal, APPLICANTS CAN NOW REGISTER FOR A NCID! NCID is a secure username and password a WORKS applicant uses to access their account. Each applicant must have an individual NCID.

In a web browser, such as Internet Explorer, go to the North Carolina Identity Management (NCID) website at https://ncid.nc.gov and sign up today!

Follow this link to create your individual NCID: DCDEE_WORKS_Applicant_Job_Aid-CreatingyourNCID.pdf.

Information will be provided and updated on the DCDEE website www.ncchildcare.nc.gov under the DCDEE WORKS tab. Informational materials and instructional guides will be posted here. Please reference this location for applicant bulletins, step-by-step instructional guides and other need-to-know information as you plan for this transition.

What is the Workforce Identification Number (WFID)?

The Workforce Identification Number is a unique identifier assigned to all Workforce Education Unit applicants.

Will I need my Workforce Identification Number (WFID number) in order to register in WORKS?

You are not required to have this information when registering, but your WFID number will assist WORKS in identifying any previous educational information on file with the Workforce Education Unit

We look forward to providing this service to the early childhood workforce. As we implement new standards and assessments, we will be working hard to keep you informed about our progress. Remember to visit our website at www.ncchildcare.nc.gov for more information about the new Workforce Online Reporting and Knowledge System!
